oil type?

Default oil type?

does anyone know what type of gear oil goes in a suzuki jr 50 dirtbike...would 20w-50 sound right?

Dude I know it's for atvs' ....I race them...I also race dirtbikes...If you can't help don't bother with your smartass comments

20w-50 is Ok also 10w-40. My source.

20w-50 seems a little thick for a bike with decent bearings in it. Thick oil is usually reserved for worn out bearings or bearings with huge tolerances. Thick oil is just harder to pump and fits into less places (like your wrist pin and cam bearings). Unless your manufacturer says to use 20w-50, I'd stay with 10w-40.

He is talking about a 2 stroke. The 20w-50 oil is only for the 5 speed tranny not for engine lubrication,the premix or oil injection handles that job.

According to this link they recommend SAE Rating 75W80 for 2 stroke bikes. linky.

Yeah, I was thinking 80w-90 for gear boxes, but I didnt know enough about 2-strokes to comment. I know in cars and trucks, it used to be regular ole 80w-90 gear oil in the diffs and manual gear boxes. Now they've changed to ATF for the manual gearboxes,,, still 80w-90 for diffs though.
